Outlook Weekend: Talking Sense

Outlook

Available for over a year

When Trevor Thomas lost his sight after an autoimmune disease he thought he would no longer be able to continue to enjoy extreme sports. But instead he's managed to hike more than 6,000 miles, with the help of his guide dog Tennille. Jo Milne was born deaf and could hear practically nothing until she was 39 years old. It was only when she discovered she was becoming blind as well that she decided to have cochlea implants fitted - which allowed her to hear clearly for the first time. Jo Malone's sense of smell is extraordinary and has helped her to build up a business empire selling scented products - things like candles, and perfume and skin creams. She recounts when she first realised she had a special talent for creating scents. Cherry Blossoms in Washington, USA. Credit: Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images.
