Keown: Rooney would be back to his best without alcohol

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Wayne Rooney would be return to his best form if he cut alcohol from his life, says former England defender Martin Keown. The Football Association has banned England players from having nights out while on international duty after pictures emerged of captain Rooney drinking into the early hours at a wedding at the team hotel. "He's the England captain and there is a responsibility,” Keown told Darren Fletcher and Jermaine Jenas on the Friday Football Social. “You're never out the public eye and you have to learn to behave yourself. "He's got a very long career ahead of him. If he takes alcohol out of his life and lives a clean life he'll be back to that 100% player." This clip is from 5 live Sport on Friday 18 November 2016.
