Border controls in Ireland would be a 'step backwards'

The man who played an influential role in securing the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland has warned that re-introducing border controls with the Irish Republic after Brexit would be a "step backwards" in the peace process. Speaking to The World This Weekend's Mark Mardell, former American senator George Mitchell said that the ability to move easily across the border had helped create stability over the past twenty years and reduced stereotypes on both sides.
