Lawrenson: Klopp should do a Fergie in the EFL Cup

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Mark Lawrenson believes Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool should go "all out" to win the EFL Cup because of the benefits a trophy win could have on the rest of the season. Lawrenson won the competition three times with Liverpool and admits it helped his team "kick on" for the remainder of the season. He said: "When we did used to win it, you didn't half kick on for the rest of the season; you've still got eight weeks to play." Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes other Premier League sides have shown the benefits of winning the first trophy of the season, adding: "What about when Manchester United were struggling in the league? They won the competition against Wigan and they kicked on." This clip was taken from 5 live Sport on Tuesday 25 October 2016.
