Live from Russia's Far East

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

Roger Hearing explores Vladivostock, the port city at the far end of Russia, close to Asia and the endpoint for the trans-Siberian railway. We ask how the city hangs on to its young graduates and Marie Keyworth investigates the challenges this part of Russia faces in filling, farming and developing its vast, empty tracts of countryside. We also hear from an English tea shop in the city and meet the local composer of a still popular 20-year-old protest song. Roger is joined throughout by Ruslan Vakulik, from PR company AGT-Vostok, and Kseniya Eremenko, historian at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. Also, as Apple is told to pay back $14.5bn to Ireland after the European Commission finds the US tech giant has paid next to no tax across the bloc's 28 countries for over 11 years, we hear why the news has not gone down well in Silicon Valley.
