Hillary Clinton and the Media

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

Donald Trump's attitude to the media has been a constant refrain during this campaign. He has banned any number of prominent news organisations - putting Univision, the New York Times, Politico, the Washington Post and others on a blacklist. Meanwhile Hillary Clinton has held no press conferences in over a year. We ask how a major politician can exist so long without having to answer questions, and why she chooses not to do so. The Institute for Fiscal Studies in the UK has found that the gap between average earnings of men and women becomes steadily wider after women become mothers - with a 33% difference after 12 years. A group of top London chefs is calling for a ban on polystyrene packaging - because it is bulky and expensive to dump - and worse, it cannot be recycled and ends up in landfill or in the world's oceans. In San Francisco, the city's board of supervisors voted in June to outlaw a whole range of Styrofoam products. The ban will be implemented gradually, starting at the end of the year, but right now they are focusing on telling everyone exactly what is in and what is out. We are joined throughout the show by Sushma Ramachandran, the former Business editor of The Hindu, in New Delhi, and Dan Szematovic of Marketplace Weekend is with us from Washington DC.
