Closure of Glenfield's Heart Unit

Jim Davis and Jo Hayward

Available for over a year

The fight to save the life saving children's heart unit at Glenfield Hospital starts today! MP's from across Leicester and Leicestershire are meeting with health bosses and doctors at the House of Commons to plan how they're going to go about protecting the centre. It's after NHS England dropped a bombshell last week and announced that it was no longer prepared to support the unit because its failing to meet new standards set out last year. It's the second time that Glenfied has come under this sort of threat, but last time surgeons, politicians and - crucially- families led the campaign to save it. One year old Noah Hand from Glen Parva was born with only half a heart and is undergoing his third open heart surgery today this morning. His dad Joe has been talking to BBC Radio Leicester's Bridget Blair.
