Organised by the Cowes based Island Sailing Club, the world famous Round the Island Race pits Olympic champions and professional offshore crews, against day sailors and families. And using the club's unique rating or handicapping system, any one of the 1533 entries on the start line for the 85th anniversary race could claim the overall prize of the Gold Roman Bowl. Neil Sackley has reported on the race for BBC Radio Solent for many years.
