Road to Rio: Alex Gregory on a rower's diet

Weekend Kick-Off

Available for over a year

Ever wondered how much an elite athlete will eat in the lead up to a huge competition? Alex Gregory, in the men's 4, says it is an incredible amount. "I read today it's 65 days until the Olympics. It's pretty much just one race to go until we head off to Rio." "We eat as much as possible. It sounds lovely, but we just need enough fuel to get us through our training sessions." "The ball park figure is 6000 calories a day will get us through a tough training day, on top of staying hydrated." "Good is the thing that can break us, so having a good healthy diet with as many calories as possible is the name of the game."
