Samarco Dam Disaster

Business Daily

Available for over a year

Jon Bithrey reports from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais a major centre for mining in the country. People there are trying to recover from the collapse of the Samarco dam which released billions of gallons of sludge onto the countryside below. The village of Bento Rodrigues was worst hit, 19 people died there as it was the first settlement to be hit by the wave of sludge. The next settlement to feel the full force of the mud was Paracatu, about 60 kilometres further south-east. We hear how residents are coping after the disaster.
