Former England batsman Chris Adams says Alex Hales' innings on the first day of the international summer was reminiscent of "a young Kevin Pietersen". With his place in the side under scrutiny following a poor series in South Africa, Hales made 71*, his highest Test score to date. Pietersen scored 23 Test tons during his career and was regarded as one of the world's finest middle-order batsmen. England closed a rain-shortened first day on 175-5.
