Witness History

Available for over a year

In the spring of 1982 Britain and Argentina went to war over the Falkland Islands. Caught up in the conflict were many scientists who worked for the British Antarctic Survey on remote outposts in the South Atlantic. BBC weather presenter Peter Gibbs remembers waiting on the island of Signy - hoping for rescue. Photo: Peter Gibbs at the beginning of his stay in Antarctica in 1980. Copyright: Peter Gibbs.
