Personal memories sought for Southampton liner exhibition

Julian Clegg

Available for over a year

Thousands of families in Southampton have a direct connection with the ocean liners. From the golden age from the 1920s to the 1950s, the ocean liners were the lifeblood of Southampton. Bringing employment, industry and glamour to the city. Now an exhibition in the Sea City pavilion tells their story, from the early days in the 1890s to modern day cruise ships. Many of the items on display are from the council's own collection. But there are also contributions from the people of Southampton and their personal relationship with a particular ship, or line. And as Neil Sackley discovered from curator Maria Newbery, there's still a chance to contribute.
