California and Britain hike minimum wage

World Business Report

Available for over a year

California is to become the first US state to raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour, after a proposal passed both houses of the state legislature. The move comes as Britain raises its minimum wage by 7.5% - way above inflation. We get analysis from Professor Alan Manning of the London School of Economics. Megan Murphy, executive editor of Bloomberg in Washington DC, and Charles Forelle, Europe Markets Editor of the Wall Street Journal in London, take a look back on the week’s news. And it’s a happy birthday to us! The first edition of World Business Report was broadcast on the BBC World Service twenty five years ago today. So how has business news changed - and what do our listeners think? Richard Collings has been finding out. Photo: Protestors in California. Credit: Getty Images
