Why aid agencies in Greece are suspending operations

World at One

Available for over a year

A number of aid agencies in Greece are partially suspending operations in protest at the way refugees are being treated there. Caroline Anning, from Save the Children, spoke to Edward Stourton on The World at One. At the moment, Save the Children are still offering child protection on the islands, but they have started scaling back on some basic support services. "We, along with other agencies like UNHCR and MSF, cannot continue to support those detention centres because we think they are inhumane and illegal", Anning explained.
