Barton: Villa not equipped for the Championship

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Joey Barton argues that Aston Villa have not set themselves up for the Championship well enough because of their "ridiculously overpriced foreigners". Barton, who currently plays for Burnley in the second tier, said: "If you don't spend in January and prepare for life in the Championship, then why not start playing some of these kids? At least they'll show some passion." The 33-year-old believes that the Midlands club should take a leaf out of Manchester United's book, adding: "Put the kids in, give them an opportunity. If given an opportunity, our kids can do a lot better than some of these ridiculously over priced foreigners." This clip was taken from 5 live Sport on Tuesday, 1 March 2016.
