Andy Kershaw: Everybody heard Savile rumours

Today

Available for over a year

The BBC missed opportunities to stop "monstrous" abuse by DJ Jimmy Savile and broadcaster Stuart Hall because of a "culture of fear", the Dame Janet Smith report says. Former Radio 1 DJ Andy Kershaw spoke on the Today programme about how Savile was perceived at the BBC. “There were rumours about his enthusiasm about his enthusiasm for sex with underage girls which were not just persistent but consistent,” Andy Kershaw said. "Everybody who worked in the wider media as well - and the entertainment business - had heard the rumours about Jimmy Savile, and for anyone to claim that they hadn't heard those rumours at the time, well it's a little disingenuous."
