World at One

Available for over a year

Chief inspector of schools in England, Sir Michael Wilshaw says there is a performance gap between schools in the North and Midlands and those in the South which seems to be getting worse. Assistant Mayor of Liverpool, Nick Small spoke the World and One presenter, Martha Kearny: "We have our hands tied as a local authority around what we can do with schools because of a government agenda that is increasingly centralising schools policy at Whitehall. That is damaging what is happening in Liverpool."
