Ladybird books for adults

Weekend

Available for over a year

Many people in Britain and other parts of the English-speaking world grew up reading Ladybird books. They told classical stories and covered topics ranging from travel to soldiers to the workplace. They often reflected a traditional view of the world where the pipe-smoking dad went out to work and the apron-wearing mum stayed at home to look after the children. But now two British writers, Joel Morris and Jason Hazeley, have brought out updated, tongue-in-cheek versions. Weekend's Martin Vennard asked Joel, first of all, where the idea for their Ladybird books came from: (Photo: Joel Morris and Jason Hazeley. Credit: BBC)
