Do open borders put European countries at risk?

World Questions

Available for over a year

European Union ministers are to rush through proposals to strengthen the EU's external borders, with tighter checks on all passengers entering the Schengen zone (that's the passport-free area of free movement within the EU). It's in response to the Paris attacks of 13 November 2015. We hear voices from both sides of the debate in Europe, from the Euro-sceptic Swedish Democrat Member of the European Parliament, Peter Lundgren; also the Maltese MEP Roberta Metsola and the first vice president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans. They were part of our World Questions debate in Brussels. (Photo: Slovenian officers guard a group of migrants blocked after crossing from Croatia in October 2015) (Credit: AP/Darko Bandic)
