'Deluded': Dawson says Burgess saga is 'another dirty chapter'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Reports that Sam Burgess could soon return to Rugby League in Australia have been deemed 'another dirty chapter' in his short-lived Union stint by Matt Dawson. 5 live commentator Alastair Eykyn delivered the breaking news that Burgess has been unhappy since the World Cup and has been given time off by Bath to consider his future. And Dawson, a World Cup winner with England, says it was 'delusional' to expect Burgess to have an instant impact in Rugby Union. "I feel desperately for Sam. It's another dirty chapter in the story which isn't really of his making." Dawson said, speaking to Mark Chapman. "The England coaching staff thinking he can be a leader from day one - I find it incredible and unbelievable." He added: "I feel sorry for Sam that someone has put him through this and deluded him into thinking he could do that in eight months. There's no player on the planet who could make that transition." This clip is from 5 live Sport on 28 October 2015.
