School support staff protest

Ian Skye

Available for over a year

Around three hundred people have gathered to protest about pay cuts for some staff at Derby City Council. An equal pay review has led to many staff receiving a higher salary, but hundreds have lost out. Some teaching assistants have lost around six thousand pounds a year. The council leader, Ranjit Banwait, has promised to go and look at alternatives. BBC Radio Derby's political reporter Chris Doidge explains what's been happening.
