Bill Giles: "Shattered" by end of BBC's Met Office contract

The Met Office is "one of the best in the world", says Bill Giles, who fronted the BBC's team of weather presenters for 17 years. A spokesperson for the Met Office has confirmed that it's lost its BBC weather forecasting contract. Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, Mr Giles said the accuracy of the Met Office forecasts is "the best in the world". The BBC says it has to secure "value for money for the licence fee payer" and the contract will go out to tender. The Met Office says it is "disappointing" news. The UK's weather service has provided the data used for BBC forecasts since the corporation's first radio weather bulletin on 14 November 1922.
