50 years ago there were no laws to stop racial discrimination in the UK. For many black and Asian people they couldn’t go to certain public places, get jobs, or find accommodation. This year marks 50 years since the first Race Relations act in the UK was passed in 1965. The anniversary of that first piece of legislation to address racial discrimination, and 800 years of the Magna Carter, were the focus of an event organised by think-tank The Runnymede Trust.
