Obama Unveils Plan to Curb Coal Use

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

US President Barack Obama unveils his Clean Power Plan, an ambitious proposal aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions from US power stations by 30% within 15 years and putting greater emphasis on wind, solar and other renewable energy sources. In a speech at the White House Mr Obama addressed his critics in the coal industry - some of whom are promising to bring lawsuits to block the plan. We speak to Peter Glaser, counsel to the National Mining Assocation, and to Anne Kelly, senior program director at Ceres, a non-profit organisation promoting sustainability in business. The first trader to face trial for rigging the Libor rate has been found guilty. Tom Hayes manipulated the interbank loan rate on a daily basis over four years, illegally making millions for his employers. Today he was sentenced to 14 years in prison on eight counts of conspiracy to defraud. Is this the beginning of accountability for white collar crime in the banking industry? Canada is heading to the polls - in October. But questions have already been put to Prime Minister Stephen Harper about an unfair fundraising advantage enjoyed by his ruling Conservative party. We hear from Diane Francis, editor at large of the Canadian paper the National Post. The BBC's Rahul Tandon joins us from India, and throughout the programme our guests are David Kuo of the Motley Fool in Singapore, and Ralph Silva - an analyst focusing on banking, technology and media - in Toronto.
