As part of Wolverhampton Week for Your WM we sent Pete Morgan to broadcast his early breakfast show from the home of Wolverhampton's trams: Midland Metro. As well as taking us on a tour of one he also discovered how the tram network links Wolverhampton City to Birmingham and that each tram is worth £2m. Many of the shiny pink and silver ones are brand new and still undergoing commissioning and each must complete 1500km running without a fault - however minor - before it is allowed into passenger service. The new trams, 59% longer than the old ones and carry far more people, have been acquired in readiness for a predicted increase in passengers once the extensions into New Street and Wolverhampton station are completed.
