The Truth About...

Available for over a year

After a hard start in life, singer Shivan Namara has everything to live for. She was born with HIV. Her mother died of AIDS and her father, she says, abandoned her. She began anti-retroviral treatment as a 14 year old but she found it hard to stick to her regime of medication. As a result, her infection developed resistance to these drugs. Her doctor at the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala switched her to second line therapy to which she has adhered ever since. Four years ago, Shevan gave birth to baby boy.
