West Bank Business Blues

Business Daily

Available for over a year

The headaches of doing business in the occupied West Bank. Marie Keyworth speaks to a paper manufacturer, an accountant working for the Palestinian authority and an American-Palestinian businessman, among others. The territory's economy must handle everything from prolonged delays at checkpoints to widespread youth unemployment, to the withholding of tax revenues by the Israeli government. Marie also speaks to the Israel Defence Force about how it balances its mandate to provide Israeli citizens with security against the threat of terrorist attack, against the needs of Palestinians to find work and enjoy an acceptable standard of living.
