Joy Hunter MBE

Available for over a year

In January 1944, at the age of 18, Joy Hunter MBE got a job working for the Cabinet War Office as a Secretary. Joy ended up working at Churchill’s War Rooms (now part of The Imperial War Museums). She typed the battle day orders for D Day and accompanied Winston Churchill to the Potsdam Conference in July 1945. She shook hands with Truman and Stalin and witnessed the impact of the war on the streets of Berlin. Here she is, in conversation at the Imperial War Museum in London. Her photo comes from the IWM Collection.
