Moya McCarthy

Available for over a year

Moya McCarthy grew up in Fulham and remembers the Blitz and the buzz bombs, although for some of the war she was evacuated to Wiltshire and Leicestershire. Her father was an Air Raid Warden. Moya remembers an early indication of bombs coming was a dip in the wireless signal, as they listened to the BBC; she also remembers that although the Thames under Hammersmith Bridge always looked beautiful under the full moon, again this was an indication that the raids would come. Here she is in conversation at the Imperial War Museum in London. Her photo comes from the IWM Collection.
