Doug Reed’s Story

Doug was an RAF navigator. Joyce made ball-bearings for aircraft. On VE Day 1945, they met in a pub. They were married for over 60 years. At the end of the war, Doug had just returned from Egypt. Based near Newark, he was converting from twin to four engine bombers. Following the declaration of the end of the war in Europe, he and his crew went to the pub to celebrate. At the White Hind, he met Joyce. She had been working at a factory making ball-bearings for aircraft. They married on 7 November 1946. They were together for over 60 years.
