Are Labour’s election pledges carved in stone?

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Lucy Powell, vice-chair of Labour’s election campaign, says despite Ed Miliband’s election pledges being carved onto a stone slab it doesn’t mean he is “absolutely not going to break them”. Powell initially said the Labour leader “stands by his pledges and his promises” before adding: "I don't think anyone is suggesting that the fact that he's carved them into stone means that he's absolutely not going to break them or anything like that." "It was just another way of highlighting that, which is that he's a guy of principle, of decency, a guy who is tough and he is going to deliver on his promises he set out, unlike some of his opponents” she added. This clip is originally from 5 live Daily on May 5 2015.
