The BBC has been hosting a special election debate looking at some of the issues affecting British South Asian communities in the run up to election day on May 7th. The Big Asian Election Debate featured a panel of political representatives which included Priti Patel from the Conservatives, Shabana Mahmood from Labour, Zuffar Haq from the Liberal Democrats, Shahrar Ali from The Green Party and Tariq Mahmood from UKIP. The topics discussed ranged from immigration to black and Asian representation in political parties, and audience members from across England got the chance to challenge politicians on the big issues for Asian voters. The debate was hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Nihal at the University of Birmingham, with BBC Three Counties and BBC Radio London's Yasmeen Khan presenting questions from the audience.
