General Election 2015: What should be the future of Trident?

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

5 live Breakfast's Nicky Campbell visited Gareloch, the home of Trident's nuclear submarine, to speak to former Naval Commander John Harbour who describes the Faslane Naval Base and the role the submarine plays in the UK's defence programme. At the Faslane Peace Camp, one campaigner told Nicky he believes the defence budget would be better off being spent on the NHS as "there are countries out there who are nuclear free and military free and they have the best health services and a good economic system". Trident has become a key battleground of the election with Labour, Conservatives and the Lib Dems committing to renewal in various forms and the SNP, UKIP and Greens looking to abolish the nuclear submarines. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Tuesday 14 April 2015.
