Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake

CD Review

Available for over a year

Marina Frolova-Walker explores the available recordings of Tchaikovsky's ballet, Swan Lake. Tchaikovsky's evergreen ballet was created from the world of Russian folk tale and is the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. The ballet was premièred by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877 and has been at the core of the ballet repertoire ever since with its tuneful score and colourful orchestrations. Top Recommendation: TCHAIKOVSKY: Swan Lake Op. 20 The USSR State Academic Symphony Orchestra, Evgeny Svetlanov (conductor) MELODIYA MELCD1002223 (3CD mid-price)
