How female athletes are affected by their periods

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

How is the performance of sportswomen affected by their periods? The former British tennis number one Annabel Croft has said that she thinks issues around women's menstrual cycles are one of the last taboos in sport. It's after Heather Watson said that problems with "girl things " affected her performance in the Australian Open. Former England cricketer Ebony Rainford Brent and British modern pentathlete Olympic Silver Medallist Heather Fell spoke to 5 live about the subject. Ebony said "You know sometimes performers do crash out. I'm not expecting everyone to come out and say everyday because it is very personal, but it's just about understanding what's happened there." This clip is originally from Breakfast on Wednesday 21 January 2015.
