Pregnant mother drank a bottle of wine a day

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

A mother admits to drinking "a bottle of wine per day. Sometimes two" when she was pregnant and believes she has given her son Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. Kathryn says she started drinking every night after finishing university but after losing her job says, "I was just drinking 24/7" and couldn't stop, even when she was pregnant. Although her first child doesn't have the condition, Kathryn believes that her second child shows signs of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome with symptoms including, "poor concentration, bad language, poor social behaviour and poor eye contact". Speaking to 5 live Breakfast's Rachel Burden, Kathryn says "I feel so guilty, day in, day out and I think, is that me that's done that to him?" Her story comes as judges rule that drinking while pregnant is not a criminal offence. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on December 4th 2014.
