The start of December means that rehearsals are usually well under way for the school nativity play. Children across Leicestershire and Rutland have been practicing carols, sheep impressions or strutting their stuff across a stage for weeks now. Or have they? According to a survey by the parenting website Netmums suggests only around a third of primary schools still put on a traditional nativity play. Apparently one in eight schools have ditched the nativity altogether to perform a modern nativity with no religious references at all.
