Uwe Tellkamp is an author who was brought up in East Germany. He has used his family's experiences of the country's repressive communist regime as the basis of his prize winning novel called The Tower. Tahir Qadiry meets the skate-kids of Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan, who are combining skateboarding and schooling. James Wharton was one of the first openly gay British soldiers.
