'Huge' killer seagull picks off Hyde Park pigeons

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Pigeons beware! A killer seagull is on the rampage in Hyde Park. Not content with left-over food from the park's restaurant, the gull has been attacking a group of pigeons, dragging the weakest of the flock into the park's Serpentine lake, drowning it and eating it for lunch. Blogger Ralph Hancock, who has been observing the seagull for the past five years, said he was "surprised" by the bird's murderous success. "Gulls aren't hawks after all, they aren't real predators," he said. "To catch something as large as a pigeon is quite difficult." This clip is originally from 5 live Drive on 15 October 2014.
