France and Kyrgyzstan

From Our Own Correspondent

Available for over a year

In France, where the economic situation never seems to get any better, how to unlock the country's potential is hotly debated. One thing many do seem to agree on is that the so-called regulated professions should be tackled. Hugh Schofield finds that there should be more scrutiny of opticians when he buys a new pair of glasses in France. Horses, falcons, campfires and archers – the Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan have it all. You can even have a go at throwing a dead goat into a goal if you are so inclined. Vladimir Hernandez has been taking part in some, but not all, of the activities.
