Driver found migrant 'clinging' to bottom of campervan

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

A Derbyshire man driving back from Calais was shocked to find a migrant "clinging on with his fingernails" to the bottom of his campervan. Paul Coles found the man whilst unpacking the hired motorhome in Ashford, Kent, and although the migrant was not injured, he started "shaking and crying". After Mr Coles gave the young Sudanese man a drink and some food, he was handcuffed and taken away by Kent police. Mr Coles said, "It's just very sad really... that young lad has left his family and friends somewhere to risk his life for a better life." This clip is originally from Clare McDonnell on Wednesday 17 September 2014.
