Vine in 1914: The Battle of the Marne

Jeremy Vine

Available for over a year

The first month of the war saw Germany making bold progress through Belgium and into France. Headed for Paris, their troops got as far as the River Marne, some 30 miles outside of the capital, which some historians claim left them overstretched. The Battle of the Marne saw the French stage a convincing fight-back, thanks to a little help from 600 requisitioned Paris taxicabs.
