The Aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines Disasters

Malaysia Airlines suffered two disasters this year - first flight MH370 went missing after apparently flying over the southern Indian Ocean, and then flight MH17 crashed in Ukraine, after shrapnel, likely from an SA11 anti-aircraft missile, ripped into its airframe at 30,000 ft. Darius Bazargan went to the village in Ukraine where the bodies and debris of flight MH17 had fallen, and found it to be a vision of hell in a sunflower field. The emotional impact of working there is not only affecting local first-responders, villagers or those helping visiting journalists, but also Darius himself. It has been six months since flight MH370 disappeared and Jennifer Pak, in Malaysia, meets relatives of some of those on board. They are finding it hard to come to terms with what happened in the absence of bodies, or even plane debris. Some still believe their loved ones are alive, and are keeping up hopes that the disappeared will one day return.
