James Foley remembered: "He believed so very much in what he did."

World Update

Available for over a year

Many people have been paying tribute to James Foley today - the American journalist apparently murdered by Islamic State militants in Syria. In a poignant post on Facebook, Jim’s mother has said she is proud of her son and his efforts to expose the suffering of the Syrian people. One person who was close friends with him was Penny Sukhraj, wife of photojournalist Anton Hammerl. Anton had been kidnapped by forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, along with James Foley in Libya in 2011, and whilst James, and three others were released, Anton was shot and killed. Anton's wife Penny remained friends with James. Photo credit: AFP
