Norway - Blessed by Oil?

Business Daily

Available for over a year

Norway is an oil producer famed for fish, Grieg and high living standards - so how did it avoid the "resources curse" afflicting most petro-economies, to become a model of social democracy? Manuela Saragosa travels to Bergen in the first of a two programmes looking at Scandinavian economies. We hear from Professor Alexander Cappelen of the Norwegian School of Economics about what Norway has done with its oil wealth. Oil remains at the heart of the country's economy, as Kurt Andreassen, head of oil services company Coast Centre Base, explains. Manuela asks Dag Rune Olsen, rector of Bergen University, what will happen when oil runs out. And she speaks to Finance Minister Siv Jenssen about what the government's strategy is.
