Thailand and Kenya

From Our Own Correspondent

Available for over a year

The recent Army coup in Thailand delighted some people in Bangkok, exasperated with endless political chaos and demonstrations on their streets. But what about the poorer rural areas, which had been a main source of support for the "red shirts" and the former PM Yingluck Shinawatra? Jonathan Head analyses the signs of a crackdown in the country's northeast - and hears from several former activists now having to keep their heads down and stay quiet. From the slopes of Mount Kenya, wildlife filmmaker Natasha Breed bears witness to the death of an elephant, at the hands of poachers. "Mountain Bull" was famously determined, hugely strong ... and monitored with high-tech satellite transmitters and GPS telemetry. But none of that could stop poachers from taking his life.
