Looming Antibiotic Crisis

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

A new report from the World Health Organisation says we're facing a world antibiotic crisis and pharmaceutical companies need to develop new drugs. Report co-author Doctor Carmen Pessoa suggests solutions to the problem; pharmaceutical research director Doctor Stephen Godwin explains why antibiotic research dried up in the 1970s. Also on the programme, Faarea Masud reports on the use of social media in the Indian elections. Afghan women's rights campaigner, Noorjahan Akbar, talks about her passions, her ambitions and her country's future. Time magazine's Beijing correspondent, Emily Rauhala, discusses terrorism in China. Plus, gay rights in India are very much in the spotlight as homosexual acts are once more criminalised. The United Nations has responded by producing a Bollywood style music video to promote tolerance of the LGBT community. Rajat Dutta explains what it's like to be a gay man in India and discusses whether the UN video is a step in the right direction.
