The World Cup is just weeks away - but how ready is Brazil to host it? Recent weeks have seen fresh violence and rising tensions in Rio's favelas, with many people insisting that the promised 'pacification' by the forces of law and order have not made life any better for them. While some of the gangsters and cartels have been beaten back, improvements to health and education have not materialised - and the police forces have been accused of new acts of brutality. Misha Glenny joins an Easter parade in the Rocinha neighbourhood and finds it full of barbed, satirical comment about what has gone wrong. And, in Marseille, one of France's most multicultural cities, Emma Jane Kirby feels that Euro-scepticism is on the rise.
