And for Leicestershire actor Richard Armitage, the series represents a big role that came in small proportions. Richard plays a Dwarf prince in the Hollywood blockbuster and he's been telling our arts reporter Geeta Pendse what it was like when he first read the Hobbit as a child and what impression it made on him at the time.
